Scholastica Wabuitu is a farmer in Murang’a East project area. She is one of the beneficiaries of Water Livestock Gardening – WLG8 trainings on nutrition garden. She has since established a nutrition garden which has brought a lot of joy in her life. Considering she is abled differently she now consumes various vegetables at the comfort of her kitchen garden as opposed to the earlier season where she had to go to the market to buy vegetables.
Previously she used to spend Kshs 50 shillings per day. That’s Kshs 350 per week and in a month Kshs 1400 from vegetables alone. By establishing nutrition garden, she now saves Kshs 1400 per month. She has now increased savings in the BWW since the money she used to buy vegetables she now uses for other activities like saving in the BWW.
Her health has improved for consuming vegetables that have been grown organically without synthetic fertilizers and chemicals. Organic vegetables she says they are more nutritious and she does not run the risk of getting cancer which has become a killer disease in the area due to increased use of chemicals that are carcinogenic. With this hospital bills have reduced she is now healthier than before and thus increasing her savings in BWW from Kshs 200 to Kshs 500.
She now enjoys diversified vegetables in her farm thus improving her health immensely. She has since then introduced herbs in her farm to boost her nutrition from the nutrition garden.
She grateful to SACDEP for training her on establishment of kitchen garden using organic farming.
