Technical Training & Research (TTR) Sector – Advancing Sustainable Agriculture Through Knowledge & Innovation

The Technical Training & Research (TTR) sector plays a pivotal role in the promotion of Sustainable Ecological Agriculture (S.E.A) across East Africa.

By integrating training, research, and strategic collaborations, the sector drives knowledge dissemination and skill development to enhance sustainable food systems and ecological resilience.

Sector Mandate

Developing S.E.A Professionals – Facilitating diploma and certificate training, proficiency programs, and practitioner courses to strengthen the reach and impact of S.E.A.

Technical Training – Offering accredited, practical-based learning through the College of Sustainable Agriculture for Eastern Africa (CSAEA). Programs accredited by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and guided by the CSAEA Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) include:

  1. Craft Certificate in S.E.A (2-year program)
  2. Proficiency Courses focusing on specialized agricultural competencies.

Research & Innovation – Collaborating with research institutions to conduct field experiments, refine ecological farming techniques, and enhance agricultural practices for both students and farming communities.

Student-Centred Practical Learning

Community-Based Practical Training Program – Structured engagement with Outreach Practicing Skills Providers (PSPs) to ensure students acquire hands-on experience in real-world agricultural settings.

Internship Program – Strategic internship placements enabling students to work alongside industry professionals, gaining practical exposure while contributing to sustainable agricultural initiatives.

Measurable Impact

Graduates Trained – Since inception in 2019, CSAEA has trained a total of 211 students. 35 students graduated with a Craft Certificate in Sustainable Ecological Agriculture. As at January 2025, the CSAEA student population stands at 106 students both on active session and attachment in SACDEP project areas

Research & Knowledge Dissemination – Implementation of ongoing field trials, continuous updates of technical manuals, and student-led outreach activities to advance sustainable farming knowledge.

Holistic Learning Environment

Beyond academics, CSAEA fosters an enriched student experience through:

Sports & Recreation – Thriving football and volleyball teams, athletics, and other recreational activities designed to promote teamwork and personal well-being.

Clubs & Societies – Platforms such as the Environment Club and Debate Club cultivate leadership, advocacy, and intellectual engagement.

Religious Societies – Groups including the Christian Union and Catholic Association provide avenues for spiritual growth and communal support.

Future Directions

The TTR sector continues to integrate direct farmer training with academic programs at CSAEA.

Expansion efforts are underway to broaden research, enhance training programs, and increase outreach initiatives, ensuring a lasting impact on schools, colleges, and the agricultural sector at large.
